Our team was super busy with in-studio maternity sessions this month, so we were so excited to venture out for this local outdoor session. This family of (soon to be) 5 braved the cold weather so that we could capture this special moment in time for their growing clan.

What we loved most about this session is the juxtaposition between this sweet mama and mother nature. Beaches, lakes, parks, and other local outdoor locations like Stewart Farm provide a calm, natural, and relaxed backdrop perfect in the early afternoon or sunset, with a variety of colourful settings to choose from.
We were able to capture this mama and her family in front of many different backdrops, including a riverside dock, historically significant farmlands, trees and other foliage, and a wooden bench. Stewart Farm is one of our local heritage sites here in South Surrey – a gem nestled on Crescent Road along the Nicomekl River – where history comes alive, telling the story of a hardworking Surrey family in the early 1900s. The park is also sometimes referred to as Elgin Heritage Park.

These heritage grounds are a real favourite amongst local photographers like me, complete with a rustic barn, farmhouse porch, an heirloom garden and the river itself. As of May 1, 2022, Stewart Farm welcomes professional photographers to use their grounds as a backdrop for sessions so long as we have a permit.

We don’t typically recommend outdoor shoots during the winter month for families with young children, however, these littles were such troopers. Sierra was kept warm in our various gowns suitable for winter sessions, such as the stunning green and teal gowns you see here.

The green and teal gowns (above) were designed by Amy Corneau Couture, while the burgundy (in earlier photos) is a Mii Estillo classic. Both of these gowns, and others, are available for clients to use from our custom maternity gown closet. We also have some cute gowns available for little girls in our client closet. Check out this little cutie, matching her mama in gorgeous green!

A few weeks after our Stewart Farm maternity session, we met back at the studio to capture photos of the newest addition to this family. Big sister did amazing during the photoshoot, paying special attention to her new little brother and even helping her other brother (now the middle child!) with posing.

After a few cute photos of the kiddos together, their grandma took them home so that we could focus on the family’s newest little addition. How precious is this little angel!?

We recommend newborn sessions like this to occur once your baby is between 5 and 14 days old. This family chose to book our Baby’s First Year Package which includes maternity and newborn sessions. These multi-session packages are a great way to capture the milestones in your baby’s life. If this deal isn’t for you, we also offer a pre-booking discount for newborn sessions that are booked prior to your baby’s arrival. Hope you enjoyed this little slice of Sierra’s story!
